Take Steps to Learn at Latin Dance Party

Share

Ever wanted to try dancing the merengue, salsa, tango or the cha-cha?

Ventura’s Barranca Vista Center plans to give the shoe-shy a chance on Saturday.

The public is invited to dance to the Mariachi Juvenil Azteca de Camarillo group as well as recorded music at the Latin Dance Party from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The center is located at 7050 E. Ralston St. Admission is $5.

Party host Diana Lehan will lead short lessons during the learn-as-you-dance session that will also provide refreshments.

Georgeanne Lees, a program coordinator, said the more than 50 people expected to attend should not be worried about stepping on each other’s toes.

“It doesn’t matter,” Lees said. “By the time they hit the floor with Diana, they will be dancing.”

The sombrero-clad Mariachi Juvenil Azteca de Camarillo will perform traditional Mexican songs. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cultural Arts Youth Scholarship Fund for disadvantaged youngsters.
