NATION IN BRIEF : PENNSYLVANIA : Jury Finds 3 Guilty in Murder of Teen

Three young men were convicted of murder and a fourth was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the slaying of Eddie Polec, 16, who was beaten with baseball bats on the steps of St. Cecilia’s Church in Philadelphia. Polec was jumped by teenagers from a rival high school in 1994 to avenge insults and get even for a reported assault on a girl. A jury convicted Nick Pinero, 18, Anthony Rienzi, 18, and Thomas Crook, 19, of third-degree murder, rather than first-degree murder, as prosecutors had sought.
