THE WAY WE WERE: Back in the early days, Carson was a sparsely populated ranching town. It has grown to a bustling commercial hub with 84,000 residents, and city officials are trying to make sure that the past is not forgotten.
The Carson Fine Arts and Historical Commission recently launched a historical campaign to help document the 28-year-old city’s transformation. They are collecting old photos and documents to piece together Carson’s history.
“We are one of the last towns in the South Bay to be developed,” said city spokeswoman Pam Wilde. “We still consider ourselves to be a growing city and we really hope to put an exhibit on the past together.”
City officials hope to open a display and perhaps publish a book. Wilde said the project will be completed by 1998, in time for the city’s 30th anniversary. For information, call (310) 952-1774.
