Nation IN BRIEF : MONTANA : Wolf Preying on Sheep Shot, Killed
A wolf brought to Yellowstone National Park under a plan to restore the endangered predator to the U.S. Rockies was shot and killed by federal agents after it returned to a sheep ranch in Emigrant, Mont., where it had already killed at least two sheep. The black male wolf, shot from a helicopter, had broken away from a pack brought to Yellowstone last winter and wandered to this area. Federal officials netted the wolf and returned it to the park last month. But it returned to the ranch, bypassing thousands of elk.
