Barbieri ‘Dear John’ Letter Told
Seemingly contradicting depositions by O.J. Simpson, Paula Barbieri says he apparently received a “Dear John” letter from her a few hours before the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Lyle Goldman, sources said Tuesday. Simpson and his attorneys have said one reason he had no motive for the murders was that he had an ongoing relationship with Barbieri.
But depositions by Barbieri seem to contradict Simpson, the sources said. According to them, Barbieri testified that on the day of the murders, she received three telephone messages from Simpson, one of which led her to believe that he had received her note breaking off their relationship. The depositions have been made in connection with a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the families of the victims.

Simpson case--Because of an editing error, The Times on Wednesday incorrectly described deposition testimony by Paula Barbieri. In her deposition, sources said, Barbieri testified that she left a telephone message for O.J. Simpson breaking off their relationship on the morning of the murders of Simpson’s ex-wife and her friend. She also testified, the sources said, that Simpson subsequently left three telephone messages for her, the contents of one of which led her to believe that Simpson had received her earlier message.
Also, a graphic on the same day incorrectly reported the date that Simpson phoned veteran Associated Press court reporter Linda Deutsch. Simpson phoned Deutsch in early November.
