Randy Hostetler; Experimental Music Composer, Performer

Randy Hostetler, 32, an experimental music composer and performer known for his work in electrical acoustics. In recent years, he had been known for organizing the “Living Room Series,” assemblies of more than 50 artists for multimedia performances. Born James Randolph Hostetler, the son of two Washington, D.C., lawyers, he earned a degree and the Music Prize from Yale University as a promising young composer in 1985. He received his master of fine arts in composition from the California Institute of the Arts. Playing the piano or other instruments, Hostetler often performed his own compositions and had recorded the CD “Happily Ever After.” On Feb. 1 in Los Angeles of a bacterial disease.
