World IN BRIEF : SRI LANKA : 24 Civilians Slain by Troops, Tamils Say

At least 24 civilians were slain and more than 25 wounded when government troops attacked the village of Kumarapuram in eastern Trincomalee district, Tamil politicians and some of the wounded said. Witnesses said they saw soldiers break open doors and windows of houses and fire at those inside. Military spokesmen said they had no information about such an attack, but army officials privately confirmed the allegations.
