South Bay : Extradition Process Set to Begin for Suspect in Officer’s Killing

Share

Extradition proceedings in Oregon are expected to begin this week for a 29-year-old man charged with shooting and killing a Manhattan Beach police officer in front of the victim’s young nephew.

Roger Hoan Brady could be in local custody as soon as next month, Deputy Dist. Atty. Barbara Turner said.

Brady is in a prison facility in suburban Portland, where he is serving a life sentence without possibility of parole for the shooting death of a 55-year-old woman. He was convicted in October of robbing and shooting her on Aug. 3, 1994, in Cedar Mill, Ore.

Manhattan Beach police believe Brady used the same .380-caliber semiautomatic pistol in the Oregon killing that was used eight months earlier when Brady allegedly gunned down Officer Martin Ganz, 29, who reportedly pulled Brady over on a routine traffic stop while the officer’s 14-year-old nephew was on a ride-along.

If convicted in the Ganz case, Brady could be sentenced to death or be transferred back to Oregon to serve the rest of his life behind bars, authorities said.
