Nation IN BRIEF : MICHIGAN : Jury Is Selected in Kevorkian Case
A jury was chosen in the assisted-suicide trial of Jack Kevorkian after lawyers for both sides agreed not to question prospective jurors about their religious beliefs. The 12 jurors and four alternates were sworn in after six hours of questioning by Pontiac, Mich., Circuit Judge Jessica Cooper and lawyers. Kevorkian, 67, is accused of aiding in the 1993 deaths of two people who inhaled carbon monoxide in apartments he rented in suburban Detroit. He was charged under Michigan’s now-expired ban on assisted suicide, which carries a sentence of up to four years in prison.
