Heavy Tax Burden

VIARMES, France —
A suburban Paris man decided that if the government was going to tax him, he’d tax the government.
The retired factory owner, identified only as Jean-Marie, owed 3,730,606 francs (about $745,000) in back taxes. He showed up at the local revenue office with three armored cars carrying 22 tons of 1-franc coins, the newspaper Le Figaro reported Friday.
The tax collector accepted the bags but remarked, “There are more modern methods of payment.”
