Malibu House Is Her Latest Release
Pop superstar DIANA ROSS, who headlined halftime activities at Super Bowl XXX last month, has put her Malibu home on the market at $3.1 million. The legendary singer and actress, known as the first black pop-rock diva, sang the title cut from her new Motown album, “Take Me Higher,” before she made her exit from the football stadium by helicopter.
The former lead singer of the Supremes listed her Malibu home, because she is not using it as much as she once did, sources say. “She’s such a busy lady,” a source explained. Ross also has a large apartment in New York and a house in Connecticut.
Ross, 51, was recognized at last year’s Soul Train Awards for her three decades as a star. She has been on a concert tour during the past few months.
Married to rock promoter Robert Ellis Silberstein and then to shipping magnate Arne Naess, Ross is the mother of five children, ages 7 to 24, including singer Rhonda Ross, daughter of Motown founder Berry Gordy.
Ross has owned her Malibu home for about eight years. She purchased it just after it had been remodeled when it was owned by John Perenchio, son of Hollywood entrepreneur Jerry Perenchio. Built in 1976, the home was also once owned by British actor Richard Harris, who leased it to billionaire financier Kirk Kerkorian, sources say.
The Malibu house, which is about 2,500 square feet in size, has a master suite with a sandbox next to a balcony facing the ocean. There are also three other upstairs bedrooms with a separate, outside entry.
The gray clapboard home, on Carbon Beach, is listed with Carol Rapf at Pritchett-Rapf & Associates in Malibu.

STEVIE NICKS, who became famous as a singer with Fleetwood Mac, has leased an oceanfront home on the Westside for a year at $36,000, sources say. Nicks, 47, lives in Phoenix but leased in L.A. to work on a retrospective about herself with Lifetime Television and on a couple of CDs of her work, including some new songs, sources say.
The house she leased has two bedrooms and an office or bonus room, which she plans to use for recording. Built in 1955 but recently refurbished, the 1,500-square-foot house has two decks and is a short walk to the beach. Dominic Middono of the Prudential-Jon Douglas Co. on Sunset Boulevard represented Nicks in the lease.

Actor DENNIS WEAVER and his wife, Gerry, have listed their vacation home near Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico.
The Emmy-winning actor, 70, has been a spokesman for Great Western Bank since 1983. He starred in the 1970s TV series “McCloud” and played Chester in “Gunsmoke,” which first appeared on TV 40 years ago last September and was on the air for 20 years.
The Weavers’ home--a three-bedroom, 2,500-square-foot getaway in the hills above Taos--was built of plaster-covered tires and cans by Taos architect Michael Reynolds.
The home is solar heated. The windows and decks face south to take advantage of the sun and the views toward Santa Fe.
The Weavers, who marked their 50th wedding anniversary last fall, live in a nearly 10,000-square-foot home, also built of tires and cans, about 40 miles from the ski resort of Telluride, Colo. They built that home, using Reynolds’ design ideas, in 1989 and moved there from Malibu in 1993.
Their New Mexico vacation home, built in 1991, is listed at $250,000 with Alix Woosley at Solar Survival Architecture in El Prado, N.M. The house is also available for a couple to rent at $85 a night or $400 a week.

VICKI LEWIS, who plays spitfire office assistant Beth on the NBC sitcom “NewsRadio” has rented a three-bedroom home in the hills of Sherman Oaks as a pied-a-terre. Lewis, 34, has been living in Malibu, where she’ll continue to live on weekends and during her TV breaks, sources say. Lewis leased the 1,800-square-foot home at close to its $2,200 monthly asking price. The house is owned by a couple who bought the Encino home of chiropractor-to-the-stars Bruce Oppenheim and his wife, actress Jenilee Harrison, for $600,000, sources say.
Oppenheim, a former husband of actress Cybill Shepherd, and Harrison are still restoring the 1930s, Tarzana tennis-court home that they bought last year for $875,000. Nevin Harrison of Geary Family Real Estate in Sherman Oaks handled the lease, sale and purchase.

JON SLAN, executive producer of Kevin Costner’s “Wyatt Earp” (1994) and this year’s TNT drama “Kissinger and Nixon,” has listed his Encino home at $950,000.
Slan, chairman and CEO of Toronto-based Paragon Entertainment, announced last fall that he planned to return to Toronto to head the office there for a couple of years. His firm will maintain the L.A. office, which Slan started running eight years ago when he bought his house.
Built in 1982, the home has four bedrooms in about 5,000 square feet, including an octagonally shaped living room with a cathedral ceiling.
