Oppor-Toon-ities:

Here’s one job fair with a lot of drawing power. The third annual Animation Opportunities Expo will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Universal City Hilton and Towers to match prospective animators with studios trying to find talent. Hollywood is in the middle of an animation boom, sparked by the success of Walt Disney Co.’s animated features and television programs and by the success of animated films on video. Most of the major players, including Disney, DreamWorks SKG, Warner Bros., Twentieth Century Fox and Hanna-Barbera, are among the 60 companies expected to be represented. The project is sponsored by the International Animated Film Society. For more information, call (818) 842-8330.

Pestered by Pirates?

Disputes over software pirating in China and music royalties in Japan are a reminder of the legal challenges facing American firms as they expand overseas, particularly in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific region. The Los Angeles County Bar Assn. and the Korean American Bar Assn. are sponsoring a seminar on South Korean and U.S. laws with a focus on intellectual property rights, dispute resolution and product liability. The seminar, which has been approved for 2.5 hours of continuing legal education credit, will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. For more information, call (213) 896-6560.
