Nation IN BRIEF : MICHIGAN : Burger Cause for Jet’s Emergency Landing

A greasy hamburger left in a jet’s galley oven started smoldering, forcing a Northwest Airlines flight bound for Tampa, Fla., to make an emergency landing at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Marta Laughlin, a spokeswoman for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, said 172 passengers and seven crew members aboard Flight 480 exited the Boeing 757 on emergency slides shortly after landing. One person twisted an ankle and was treated at a hospital, she said.
