The 38th annual Fiesta de Las Golondrinas begins tonight with A Taste of San Juan, ushering in a month of festivities to celebrate the return of the swallows.

The event, featuring dishes by 16 local restaurants, will be at the newly restored Capistrano Depot at 26701 Verdugo St. from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

“This is the first time the depot has been open since a year ago New Year’s Eve,” said Rita Tanner, publicity co-chairwoman for the Fiesta Assn., the nonprofit organization that runs the monthlong celebration.

“It is the first event of many to help raise money for the Swallows Day Parade on March 23,” Tanner said.

Live entertainment will include the Folklorica Dancers of San Juan Capistrano, an exhibition of Western line dancers from the Vernette Dance Club and guitar music.
