EVERYWHERE

Sow: Chard (except in the high mountains). Beets, radishes (except in the mountains). Broccoli, cabbage, carrots (except in the low desert and mountains); chives/garlic/onions/shallots (except in the desert and high mountains). Other winter greens and herbs (except in interior climates where fuchsias won’t grow and high mountains).

Plant: Potatoes (except in the mountains).

Harvest: Radishes, winter greens and herbs. Broccoli, celeriac, leafy celery, peas (except in deserts and mountains). Brussels sprouts, cauliflower (except in interior climates where fuchsias won’t grow and the mountains).

COASTAL CLIMATES

Sow: Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, peas, sorrel, spinach.

HIGH DESERT

Sow: Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, kohlrabi, peas, turnips.

LOW DESERT

Sow: Cucumbers, melons/watermelons, summer squashes.

Sow for transplanting: Tomatoes.

Harvest: Beets, carrots.

INTERIOR CLIMATES

(Where fuchsias won’t grow)

Sow: Celeriac, leaf celery, kohlrabi, turnips.

Sow: Kohlrabi, sorrel, spinach, turnips.

KEY

Other winter greens and herbs: Arugula, chervil, chicories, Chinese cabbages, cilantro, collards, corn salad, cress, dandelion, endive, green-in-the-snow mustard, kale, komatsuna (mustard spinach), winter lettuces, mizuna, parsley and rosette pak choi.

When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers. Sow/plant/harvest in cold frame where there are freezes.
