The Monrovia Police Department on Thursday unveiled its new electronically assisted bicycles that can reach speeds of 18 mph without pedaling.
Using money from air quality control grants, the department bought four AV Patrollers for $1,993 each, said Dale Foster of AeroVironment, the Monrovia-based company that designed the bikes.
AeroVironment has been working with the department for more than three years, testing prototypes, Lt. Terry Dochnahl said. “They have to be strong because we drop these bikes a lot,” he said. . . .
