School Board Adds 2 Preparation Days

Pinning their hopes on a favorable state budget, the Conejo Valley Unified School District board has approved a calendar that would give teachers two extra days each year to prepare for their classes.

But in the event the budget doesn’t provide money for the days, the board also approved a shortened version of the calendar with 180 instead of 182 teacher days.

Both versions were approved Thursday night for the 1996-97 and the 1997-98 school years.

Although the board has made plans for both scenarios, Jo-Ann Yoos, assistant superintendent of personnel services, said she is optimistic that the 182-day calendar will be implemented in Thousand Oaks schools.

“We are very hopeful with the way things are being projected that we will be able to restore the two days,” she said.

The two preparation days were sacrificed by teachers about four years ago during budget cuts, Yoos said.
