District Offers City Davis School Site

Property at Davis School may be available to the city for recreational uses, school district officials said Friday.

In suggesting this third site, officials of Newport-Mesa Unified School District, who had been negotiating to sell one piece of property and lease another to the city, said Wednesday that they now have other plans for those properties. The city had hoped to use the first two parcels for parks.

City Manager Allan L. Roeder said, if an agreement is struck, the city will build two soccer fields on land at Davis School, a former middle school that now houses an adult education program.

Carolyn Stocker, the district’s director of business services, said the fields at Davis are a good choice for the city because they do not border residential neighborhoods.
