Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Shuttle Experiment Expected to Proceed

Tired but relieved, space shuttle Columbia’s astronauts aimed for an on-time release today of a satellite-on-a-cord after solving computer problems. The trouble almost forced NASA to delay the satellite unreeling. The half-ton metal ball and its slender, 12.8-mile cord are designed to generate electricity as they sweep through Earth’s magnetic field at 17,500 mph. The seven crewmen spent much of their day trying to fix two computers needed for the experiment.
