Philip J. Koen; TRW Executive, Wine Connoisseur

Philip J. Koen, 73, TRW executive and noted collector and connoisseur of fine wines. A native of Salem, Mass., he was educated at Villanova, Southern Methodist and Harvard universities. He became a vice president and controller of the TRW Energy Group and later manager of TRW’s Mission Manufacturing Co. and senior vice president and chief financial officer of Getty Synthetic Fuels. Koen served in the Richard Nixon administration as commissioner of personal property with the General Services Administration. Always interested in fine wines, Koen was elected to La Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, served as president of the Pasadena Wine and Food Society and established the importing and distribution company Phillipe et Fils. Koen was one of the original founders of the Los Angeles County Music Center and a major supporter of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Downtown Women’s Center. A devout Catholic, he was elected a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher. On Sunday in Los Angeles of liver cancer.
