Former “Tonight Show” sidekick Ed McMahon has settled his multimillion-dollar lawsuit against the Star tabloid over a 1993 article that accused him of drunken behavior on a flight to London. The case had been scheduled for trial later this month in Los Angeles Superior Court. The settlement amount was not disclosed, but McMahon said he was “very happy.” . . . Actor Jack Lemmon on Friday received the Berlin film festival’s top honor, the Golden Bear award, which recognized him for his life’s work in such varied films as “The Days of Wine and Roses,” “Save the Tiger” and “Glengarry Glen Ross.” . . . The National Assn. of Minorities in Cable honored the Black Entertainment Television network in Hollywood Saturday with its North Star Award for “developing cable programs depicting positive minority images.” . . . Singer-songwriter Phil Collins has been signed to write the songs for Walt Disney Pictures’ animated movie version of “Tarzan,” which is scheduled for release in 1998. . . . “Grace Under Fire” star Brett Butler has been named to host the 22nd annual People’s Choice Awards telecast March 10 on CBS. . . . ABC has pushed back by one week the premiere of its new Jim Henson Productions comedy “Aliens in the Family.” The half-hour show will now debut March 15 at 9 p.m.
