Apple, Packard Bell and Compaq Lose Market Share: Apple Computer Inc., Packard Bell Electronics Inc. and Compaq Computer Corp. all lost market share in sales of home personal computers in the fourth quarter, according to a survey by Computer Intelligence InfoCorp. The three companies saw their collective share of the market drop from 70% to 56.6%. Apple had the biggest decline, with its share dropping to 11.2% from 16.8%; it was bumped from third to fourth place by Acer America Corp. Packard Bell, which retained its No. 1 position, saw its share fall to 27.9% in the quarter from 33.4% in the same period of 1994. Compaq’s share fell to 17.5% from 19.8%; the company retained the No. 2 position.
