Unions: Teamsters President Ron Carey installed a temporary trustee at the union’s Miami Local 390, accusing officials in charge of movie and TV jobs at the local of nepotism and improperly soliciting gifts. The union alleged in its official notice that Local President Clarence Lark Jr., his wife, brother-in-law and another union official favor friends and family members on movie and TV jobs over other qualified union members. The union said 17 of the 60 members of the local who work in movie jobs are family, friends or business associates of the officials. Among the allegations was the soliciting of cash contributions for officers’ birthdays, at Christmas and during reelection campaigns. Carey named Vincent Hickman, a 16-year Teamster, as temporary trustee.
