Business Incorporations Decline 13% for 1995

New business incorporations in Ventura County were off more than 13% last year--the steepest year-to-year decline in Southern California.

A total of 778 newly incorporated businesses in the county were formally registered with the California secretary of state in 1995--13.3% less than the 897 registered in 1994.

In contrast, new incorporations last year declined 1.1% in Southern California and 2.3% statewide, CDB Infotek reported. Filings increased 1.8% in Los Angeles County.

An improved job picture may have caused the overall downturn, suggests Rick Rozar, CDB’s president.

“While the decline might mean that entrepreneurs are having a harder time finding financing and getting their new projects going, this time around it probably indicates that there are fewer newly unemployed professionals scrambling to start their own businesses,” he said.
