Hearing Planned on Proposed Annexation

The Calabasas City Council will hold a public hearing Wednesday on a proposal to annex Mountain View Estates to the city.
Residents of the gated community off Mureau Road north of the Ventura Freeway have pushed for annexation for almost three years. But Ahmanson Land Co., which hopes to build a mini-city just north of Mountain View Estates, sued to block the annexation, reportedly fearing that the move would endanger its plans to build an access road near Mountain View Estates.
The annexation proposal had been approved by the city, and the matter had reached the Local Agency Formation Commission, when a judge’s ruling last August blocked annexation on technical grounds. Annexation supporters were left with the option of appealing the decision, which could have taken as long as a year, or beginning the entire process again. It opted for the latter.
The public hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Calabasas City Hall at 26135 Mureau Road. City Manager Charles Cate said that if all goes as planned, the matter could reach the Local Agency Formation Commission this summer.
