It was hard to find anything wrong in the Ice Dogs’ 5-0 victory over the Kansas City Blades before an announced 1,264 at the Sports Arena on Wednesday night.

John Byce scored a goal and had three assists.

Dave Smith scored two goals.

And Kay Whitmore stopped all 39 shots he faced.

“I thought in the first period Kay Whitmore was the difference. We were able to pick it up after that,” Ice Dog Coach John Van Boxmeer said. “It’s the kind of night that makes the beer taste better.”

Three of the goals were on power plays. Los Angeles leads the IHL with 93 power-play goals.

The victory, coupled with Peoria’s loss to San Francisco, put the Ice Dogs (28-26-11) in sixth place in the Western Conference.

Whitmore’s shutout was the second of the season for the Ice Dogs. Dave Littman shut out Milwaukee on Dec. 2.
