In what the university is calling the largest event of its kind, Cal State Northridge will host a three-hour job festival Monday featuring representatives from more than 100 local and international companies.

“It’s open to students, graduate students and all alumni,” said Adele Scheele, director of CSUN’s Center for Career and Leadership Development, the festival’s sponsor.

Participating employers will include Bank of America, the Walt Disney Co., the FBI, Frito-Lay, IBM, the Los Angeles Police Department, Macy’s, Nabisco, Radio Shack, Sears, Target and United Way.

Scheele said visitors should bring plenty of resumes and plan to spend at least 30 minutes visiting with employers. She added that many companies are coming to the festival with jobs to fill and in some cases will conduct interviews on the spot.

“The mistake is just to swoop up all their materials and look at them later,” she said. “You won’t.”

Career counselors will also be on hand throughout the festival to answer questions, and will periodically conduct mini workshops on how to get the most out of job fairs.

“It’s one thing to know there’s a fair,” she said. “It’s another to prepare yourself.”

CSUN’s Job Festival ’96 will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday in the University Student Union, 18111 Nordhoff St. Admission is free.
