Suspect Seen With Shooting Victim Before Body Found on Fire in Park
The suspect in the shooting death and burning of a 23-year-old man was the last person seen with him before the body was discovered smoldering on a street, police said Friday.
The mother of the victim, Michael Vu, told investigators that she had seen Thanh Van Quang, 21, of Huntington Beach with her son before he disappeared last weekend.
“That’s what led us to him,” Seal Beach Lt. Kenny Mollohan said. “We got a search warrant for the house, and we found stuff in the house that implicates him in the murder.”
Mollohan declined to elaborate on the evidence. Quang, who was arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday night, was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail at the Orange County Jail.
A resident in the College Park East neighborhood saw flames across the street in Aster Park at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and discovered Vu’s body after she hosed down the fire.
Police have declined to say whether a motive has been established.
Quang was cited for misdemeanor weapons violations last year, according to court records.
