Caseworker for County’s Children

I am writing to commend you for your recent series (Feb. 26, 27) on abused children and Los Angeles County’s system of child protection. Jane Gross deserves particular commendation for her compelling and informative “Front-Line Fighter for Children.”

The article details the trials, tribulations and triumphs of one Los Angeles County Children’s Services caseworker, Jennifer Garza, as she struggles to guarantee the safety of this county’s abused and neglected children. Gross’ expert writing vividly captured the human drama that Garza and 2,400 other caseworkers face daily in their efforts to protect the 66,000 children served by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.

Garza and her colleagues deserve our praise for their dedication, diligence and persistence in their never-ending work to protect children and, when possible, to preserve families.
