Widow Sues Drugstore Over Death

SANTA ANA — A Laguna Niguel woman is suing Longs Drug Stores, alleging that a drug dispensed by a pharmacist was 10 times stronger than prescribed for her husband and led to his death.
Donald E. Evans, who was in his 70s, was prescribed Synthyroid to stimulate his weak thyroid, the suit says.
Evans’ doctor prescribed .0125 milligram of the medication per day. But on March 19, 1995, the Longs Drug Store on La Paz Road in Laguna Niguel filled the prescription with doses of .125 milligram, according to the lawsuit, filed this week by Ruth Evans in Orange County Superior Court.
Donald Evans died March 27 as a result, according to the suit.
Representatives for Longs could not be reached for comment Friday.
