Pesticide Suspected in Deaths of 3 Stowaways

NEW YORK —
Three stowaways on a cargo ship bound from Africa to the United States died and may have been poisoned by pesticide sprayed in a sealed hold, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.
The stowaways had sneaked onto the Ostfriesland before it left Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast in West Africa, and were believed to have hidden in a cargo hold for the 10-day trip across the Atlantic, the Coast Guard said.
