Students searching the Internet in the Lennox School District have been restricted from using profanity and accessing obscene information while exploring cyberspace at school.
The district’s Technology Advisory Committee established the policy for students and staff using the information superhighway last week as the district prepares to increase students’ access level, said technology teacher John Umekubo. All six schools in the district are online and all students have access to the Internet, he said.
“We are giving the kids here exposure to the technology out there so that they can experience more than Lennox,” Umekubo said, “but we needed set some guidelines and make sure it is a safe environment for the kids.”
Umekubo said the district uses a program called Surfwatch to block inappropriate Web sites.
