An American soldier was killed and another injured Friday in a vehicle accident in Bosnia, U.S. officials said.

The soldiers’ names were withheld pending notification of relatives.

It marked the second death of a U.S. soldier since the Bosnia peace enforcement mission began in December. The first was Army Sgt. Donald Dugan, who was killed by a land mine on Feb. 3.

The latest accident, in northeastern Bosnia, occurred in bad weather and involved a 10-ton vehicle and part of a pontoon bridge.

The injured soldier was evacuated to a mobile Army surgical hospital at Camp Bedrock near the town of Donja Visca, the Army said in a brief announcement from its base in Tuzla. His condition was not known.

Also Friday, Madeleine Albright, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, viewed human remains at a suspected mass grave sight in northeast Bosnia, then urged action to ensure that war crimes investigations are not impeded.

“Its the most disgusting and horrifying sight for another human being to see,” Albright said after walking through the field site at Branjevo collective farm, south of the village of Janja.
