Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Police Commissioner Bratton to Resign
New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton, who has seen serious crime drop to its lowest level since the 1960s, is resigning to take a job in the security business. Bratton said he will leave April 15. Despite rumors of a rift with Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani over his star treatment in the news media, he insisted his decision to leave the $133,000-a-year job after two years is voluntary. Bratton, 48, would not disclose his new salary as head of the New York City division of Boston-based First Security Services Corp.
