Westside : Jury to Decide on LAX Landing Fees
A federal judge has cleared the way for a jury to decide whether the city can impose higher landing fees at Los Angeles International Airport.
Seventeen airlines, which sued the Department of Airports over the $8.7 million the city has charged in fees and transferred to its general account, wanted federal Judge William Keller to rule in their behalf without a trial.
Keller found Thursday that $2.6 million worth of charges dating from 1983 to 1988 were outside the state’s four-year statute of limitations and could not be charged. But the dispute over the rest of the money should be resolved by a jury, he said.
