SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Patagonia, the Ventura-based manufacturer of outdoor clothing, has begun moving merchandise from its Ventura distribution center to its new Reno Service Center.

The move to the 170,000-square-foot Nevada location, announced last year, will be completed by mid-July, said Patagonia spokeswoman Lu Setnicka. Patagonia, a division of Lost Arrow Corp., will continue to house its administrative headquarters in Ventura.

Thirty-five of the 55 employees at the Ventura distribution center will move to Reno. The remaining 20 employees have taken severance packages, Setnicka said. Up to 20 part-time employees are being phased out too, she said.

“We’ll still be shipping products out of Ventura until the end of June,” Setnicka said.

Along with distribution, the Reno Service Center will handle wholesale customer service, formerly run out of Ventura, and mail-order customer service, previously run out of Bozeman, Mont., Setnicka said.

“We’re consolidating our customer service function,” she said. “This will be bringing Ventura and Bozeman together.”

The Reno center will employ 120 workers, about 70 of whom already have been hired.
