Obituaries : Robert Frandzel; Attorney, Activist

Robert D. Frandzel, an attorney, fund-raiser and activist who aided abused and neglected children, has died. He was 53.

Frandzel, a partner in the Frandzel & Share law firm, died Friday at UCLA Medical Center of lung cancer.

He was the former president of the Friends of Child Advocates. Frandzel began working with the group in 1984 as a volunteer attorney assisting troubled children, and later joined the board of directors and became a major fund-raiser. He served as president in 1992-93.

Frandzel also was vice president of Jewish Big Brothers and acted as big brother to three boys.

Educated at UCLA and USC, he served as president of the California Young Lawyers Assn. and co-chaired the American Bar Assn. Committee on Legal Services to the Elderly.

Frandzel is survived by his wife, Enid; his parents, Max and Esther; a brother, Alan; a sister, Marilyn Lewis, and two daughters, Lara and Jill.

The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to the Jewish Big Brothers, 6505 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles 90048, or to Friends of Child Advocates, 201 Centre Plaza Drive, Monterey Park, CA 91754.
