Apple to Sell Colorado Plant: The Cupertino, Calif.-based company, taking another step in redesigning itself, said it will shed one of its four factories but the new owner will still make Macintosh computers. The sale of the Fountain, Colo., plant to SCI Systems Inc. marks the first time Apple Computer Inc. has had another company manufacture a large number of its computers, the company said. Previously, Sony made some PowerBook portable computers. SCI Systems, of Huntsville, Ala., makes a wide range of computer and communications systems and is the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer. Terms of the sale and the three-year manufacturing agreement were not disclosed. SCI plans to hire most of the 1,100 workers at Fountain.
