Resignation of Senior Center Chief Accepted
South Pasadena officials announced Thursday that they are accepting the resignation of the city’s senior center director, who is being investigated on charges that she used city funds for personal expenses.
Leonor Escalante submitted her resignation in December and offered to pay the city a settlement of more than $12,000. She has denied any wrongdoing.
The City Council declined the civil settlement offer, and the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office is determining whether it has enough evidence to prosecute Escalante on criminal embezzlement charges, said City Manager Ken Farfsing.
Escalante, who had overseen the center since 1984, was placed on administrative leave last September after a city audit uncovered financial irregularities in the center’s management, Farfsing said. . . .
