Griffith Joyner Leaves Hospital After Suffering Seizure on Plane

Olympic gold medalist Florence Griffith Joyner was released from a hospital Friday, a day after suffering a seizure on an airplane en route to St. Louis.

She was discharged about midday, said Kim Collins, a spokeswoman at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The family requested that no other details be released, Collins said.

Griffith Joyner suffered the seizure while on the plane with her husband, Al Joyner, and their 5-year-old daughter, Mary, according to her sister-in-law, track star Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

Al Joyner said Griffith Joyner was on the way to the Jackie Joyner-Kersee East St. Louis Relays for high school athletes.

“She’s doing fine, and I’d like for all of you to keep her in your prayers,” Joyner-Kersee said.

Griffith Joyner did not appear at the track meet Friday, and her whereabouts were not known.

Griffith Joyner, 36, known to fans as Flo Jo, holds world records for the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She won three gold medals and a silver medal in the 1988 Olympics at Seoul, South Korea.
