Annual Science Expo at College This Week

A laser laboratory, a solar power plant model and cross-sections from a cadaver will be among a host of exhibits on display Wednesday at Moorpark College’s annual Science Expo.

The daylong event will include lectures and demonstrations designed to spark an interest in the sciences.

In the morning, high school students from across the county are invited to listen to lectures on topics ranging from primate sexual behavior to forensic DNA testing.

Representatives from UCLA, UC Irvine, Azusa Pacific University, Cal Lutheran University, the Cleveland Chiropractic School, the Samara University of Oriental Medicine and other schools will be on hand to answer questions about their science programs.

The event will also include contests designed to test participants’ math and science knowledge.

Afternoon and evening lectures will be geared toward other science professionals, with speakers from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and other research institutes.

The event, organized by the college’s Math, Engineering and Science Assn., will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
