Times Web Site Draws Big Response

The launch of the Los Angeles Times World Wide Web site on Monday drew a strong response, occasionally overwhelming the system and creating delays, said organizers of the online service. Access lines were adjusted to allow for increased traffic on the site, located at https://www.latimes.com

“Actually, it is a good kind of problem to have on an opening day,” said Terry Schwadron, deputy managing editor for The Times. “We were receiving upward of 1,000 visitors a minute” after the site was launched.

The service contains news stories and graphics, a custom news retrieval service, connections to Southern California sites and a host of other information.
