Three people were taken to the hospital after two separate car accidents in Oxnard on Monday evening--both involving small children who were pedestrians, authorities said.

Police declined to release the names of the motorists or victims late Monday.

Authorities said a 5-year-old girl was struck by a car while crossing at Channel Islands Boulevard and C Street about 6:35 p.m. The car threw the girl about 15 feet, where rescuers found her alert but with severe injuries to her legs and minor cuts to the head.

A 44-year-old woman suffered injuries to the chest, arm and leg when her car was struck by another vehicle during the same accident, authorities said. It was unclear whether the woman’s car was hit by the same car that struck the girl.
