Central Los Angeles : $3-Million Satellite City Hall Office Dedicated at Ceremony

A satellite City Hall office, complete with computer lab and a community meeting center, opened Monday at Vermont Avenue and 85th Street in South Los Angeles.
The Constituent Service Center, which cost $3 million, houses the district office of City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas and representatives of 15 city departments, including police, building and safety, aging, and housing.
“This is community-based government,” said Ridley-Thomas, at the opening ceremony in front of the stylish, modern two-story building.
A new structure was originally built at the site in 1992 but it burned down during the riots just before it was to open, according to Ridley-Thomas’ office.
After the opening festivities, Ridley-Thomas held a briefing on development projects in the 8th Council District, including several supermarkets, a new alternative high school and a home for the elderly.
Like the “mini-City Hall,” the projects are all public-private partnerships, the councilman said, and promise to bring nearly 500 jobs to South Los Angeles.
