From Times Wire Reports

A volcano on the island of Montserrat spewed ash and hot gaseous rock, hurling ash 25,000 feet into the sky, scientists said. William Ambey, chief scientist of the Montserrat Volcanic Observatory, said it was comparable to an eruption Saturday, which was the strongest since the volcano became active in July. Another eruption occurred about an hour later, Ambey said. The British colony was awaiting what the observatory called a “climactic volcanic eruption,” expected within several days.
