Alicia Feuchter, a junior at Fullerton Union High School, has been chosen to participate in Presidential Classroom, a leadership program in Washington.

The program gives students from across the nation an opportunity to attend sessions of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, as well as briefings with a number of government organizations, including the Central Intelligence Agency.

Feuchter, 16, will be in Washington from June 29 to July 6. As part of the program, she will participate in debates with other students on a variety of topics of national and international concern, school officials said.

The program is sponsored by a national nonprofit organization founded in 1968. Its goal is to give students a close look at the United States government in action and to acquaint them with its various facets.

Feuchter, a student leader at her school, is also active in several sports programs.

She said she anticipates that Presidential Classroom will provide her with “a hands-on opportunity to experience how our government functions.”
