Armed Men Hijack Van Loaded With Computer Parts

Share

Two armed men hijacked a delivery van and stole $455,000 in high-technology computer components, police said.

“To tell you honestly, as the computer and high-tech industries continue to grow, you’re going to probably see more of these crimes,” Irvine Police Lt. Tom Hume said.

The components were being delivered in the Westpark area Monday about 2:45 p.m. when two men armed with a revolver confronted the driver, got into the van and ordered him to drive, Hume said.

At the Del Amo Boulevard exit of the San Gabriel River Freeway, the robbers ordered the driver out.

The driver was unharmed and called the California Highway Patrol for help.

No suspects have been identified, and the unmarked van has not been found.

The attackers were described as Asian males in their late teens. One was carrying a 4- to 6-inch revolver.

Investigators ask that anyone with information call Irvine police at (714) 724-7011.
