Selection Procedure for Treasurer OKd

Share

The City Council this week approved a procedure for choosing an interim city treasurer.

Dan Villella, appointed in December to succeed Donald L. Watson, who retired last fill, stepped down from the post March 28 and returned to his former position as the city’s finance director. Voters on March 26 rejected a ballot measure that would have change the elected office to an appointive one, so a treasurer will be elected in November. Until then, someone will be appointed.

City Administrator Michael T. Uberuaga, in a memo to the council, said that because the city treasurer has a “critical role in securing the financial well being of the city, it is necessary to fill this position in the most expedient manner.”

The council agreed to accept applications for the interim position through May 3 and to arrange for a panel of financial experts to interview candidates on May 10. An appointment is expected to be made May 20, officials said.

The salary range is $5,342 to $6,618 a month, depending on the experience and qualifications of the applicant chosen.

Candidates must be registered voters, residents of the city and be able to be bonded. Applications are available at the city clerk’s office and Personnel Department at City Hall, 2000 Main St. Information: (714) 536-5227.
