Nation IN BRIEF : NATIONWIDE : Cardinals Condemn Abortion Bill Veto

American Catholic leaders condemned President Clinton’s veto of a bill banning “partial-birth abortions,” charging that the United States is moving closer to accepting infanticide. In what they called a “virtually unprecedented” action, eight Roman Catholic cardinals and the president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops wrote Clinton to say they would urge Catholics and others to appeal to Congress to override the veto.
