Carnival Escorts for Disabled Needed

Share

Conejo Valley Days organizers are looking for volunteers to escort disabled children to the community’s popular Western-days carnival for one morning next week.

On April 26, the fairgrounds at Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks will be closed from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. to all but about 300 special education students from Conejo Valley, Agoura, Simi Valley and Moorpark elementary schools.

Special Kids’ Day was designed to give disabled children the same chance to enjoy the carnival as their peers, said Jody Brown, the event’s chairwoman.

Ideally, organizers would like to pair each child up with one volunteer.

“We need volunteers, ages 16 and up, to allow one-on-one pairing with each handicapped child,” Brown said.

To register as a volunteer, call (805) 492-2238.

Volunteers may also show up at 9 a.m. on the day of the event at the park, located at the Moorpark Freeway and Janss Road.

They will receive a brief orientation before the children arrive.
